The graffiti contest will gather 12 teams consisting of maximum 5 writers (participation is by invitation only). There will be 3 evaluation criteria upon following points:

• originality: crews point of view upon the given theme
• style: crews power to stand out with artistic style (complexity, characters, colors, effects, shades, etc.)
• performance: the time given, each crew will be checked from time to time to check progress (time to do paper-sketch and put onto wall, etc.).

Prize: 5000 EUR – cash

Concept painting – Murals

Each crew will have to perform a piece together within 22 hours under the following conditions: same colours (50 types of colours Montana Black 400ml), same topic (provided by the judges few minutes before the competition starts, same time: 22 hours for everybody to perform). The 22 hours will be divided on 3 days, as it follows:

• 1st day: at 12:00 all crews must be present at the event for receiving the topic of the mural competition. this day will end at 06:00 pm as all crews will have to stop painting and continue the next day
• 2nd day: starts at 11:00am and ends at 6:00pm. as the day before, the painting will continue on the 3rd day.
• 3rd day: starts at 11:00am and ends at 6:00pm. after 6:00pm, within 1hr time, the winners will be announced.

Freestyle throw ups

During the 2nd day, at 2:00pm, one member of each crew performs a throw up under the following conditions: same colors (2 types of Montana Black 400ml or Montana Gold 400ml) which can be either black and chrome, or 2 colours that the jury will decide; same word (provided by the organizing crew a few seconds before the competition starts, same time: 90 seconds to perform for everybody).

Freestyle hand-styles – Tags

During the 2nd day, at 4:00pm, one member of each crew performs a tag under the following conditions: one Montana marker (Montana BOMBING Marker, 20 mm T-tip), same word (provided by the organizing crew a few seconds before the competition starts, same time: 300 seconds to perform for everybody), on canvas.

Freestyle sketching

During the 3rd day, one member of each crew performs a sketch under the following conditions: same markers (24 type of COPIC sketch and TOUCH markers, also spray-paint allowed to use), same word (provided by the judges few seconds before the competition starts, same time: 120 minutes for everybody), ON CANVAS ,canvas size: 20cm x 30 cm. the minimum covering of the sketch to taken into consideration is 70% of the total surface of the canvas.

Sket One is a visual artist with an old school urban background. A Connecticut based graffiti artist and founder of the Bode Jam. Sket One, has designed toys for such toymaker heavyweights as Kaching Brands, MINDstyle, Kidrobot, Wheaty Wheat, Red Magic, Circus Punks, and more. We met at Miami Art Basel this past year and kept in touch ever since. Sket One has built a successful career as a visual artist whose work is both acclaimed and in high demand. Sket One’s artistic and business ambitions came together for the first time when, in 1992, he created and ran Unitee, a clothing design company.

Papergirl este un proiect de arta initiat in 2006, in Berlin, de Aisha Ronniger.

In stilul baietilor care distribuie ziare in SUA, lucrari de arta sunt rulate si distribuite de pe bicicleta pe strada, in mod aleator, trecatorilor. Oricine poate sa participe!

Intre timp, proiectul a fost adoptat si de alte orase din lume: Albany-NY, San Francisco, Cape Town, Portland, Charlotte, Sao Paulo si Northampton.

Ideea este aceea de a aduce arta catre public intr-un alt fel decat normal: de a surprinde oamenii si de a-i aduce in contact cu arta in viata lor de zi cu zi.

Motto-ul papergirl este: “Oricine primeste o rola e norocos si banii nu pot cumpara norocul!”, in plus, “E mult mai distractiv sa primesti ceva atunci cand nu trebuie sa dai nimic in schimb!”.

“Ziarul” pe care il distribuim consta in lucrari de arta rulate impreuna.

“I guess my ambition was to make a film that would do for graffiti art what ‘The Karate Kid’ did for martial arts – a film that would get every schoolkid in the world picking up a spray can and having a go,” Banksy said of his first film.

As it turns out, I think we might have a film that does for street art what ‘Jaws’ did for waterskiing.

Banksy’s voice was altered and his face concealed, as in the documentary. His film is the story of urban art as told by an earlier associate, Frenchman Thierry Guetta, who tapes artists in action. Banksy has become world famous for illegal outdoor graffiti, including painting the West Bank barrier and leaving a life-size figure of a Guantanamo Bay detainee at the California theme park Disneyland – both documented in the film.

He uses satire in his works, tackling politics and culture. Banksy, who has the directing credit for the 87-minute film, allows the Frenchman to film him working provided he shows only his hands and his back. Some footage of Banksy is in the film, including the artist’s Disneyland episode and narrow escape.

“‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’ is one of the most honest films you will ever see,” Banksy said in his video to the festival.

“There was no plan, there was no script and we didn’t even realize we were making a film until halfway through. I think it’s a good film as long as you’ve got very low expectations.”

From a small-time graffiti artist to a global star, Banksy’s work has become so valuable that several of his street works have been salvaged and sold, including a painting on a London wall in London that fetched 208,100 pounds ($340,000) in 2008. Banksy, from the western English city of Bristol, has had four exhibitions in Britain and the United States that attracted a total of over 550,000 visitors.

It was unclear whether the artist was in Berlin for the premiere. Berlin festival director Dieter Kosslick said he would be in town. “He’ll be here but no one will see him,” he said. A press conference was at one point scheduled but canceled. “There wouldn’t have been anyone to give any answers,” a festival spokeswoman said. She added organizers assumed Banksy would at some point leave a tangible sign of his presence.
